What is 500 Words?

500 Words is a competition for young writers.

In 2011, Chris Evans had a dream: to get children excited about reading and writing. All children, no matter what their ability. 500 Words is now one of the most successful story-writing competitions for children in the world.

Quite simply it challengers writers between the ages of 5 and 13 to write a story in 500 Words or less … That’s it! It’s very simple. Entrants write an original story on any subject or theme in 500 Words or fewer and submit it online. If they win, their story will be read live on the radio by a superstar celebrity. No! Really!

There is nothing complicated … just lot’s of creative fun.

This site has been created by staff at Broad Oak Community Primary School to help you – Yes, you! – to write your 500 word story. Here, you will find: tips on writing, help to improve your grammar and spelling, story ideas and lots of other resources to help make your writing better and to increase your enjoyment in writing. Because – believe it or not – writing IS fun!

So what are you waiting for?
